addie.

my sweet niece.

my brother doesn’t have any children. i inherited all of my nieces and my nephew by marriage. addie was the first. although 3 of my nieces were born by the time i was married, addie came first. i remember my husband (or unofficial boyfriend at the time) being so excited to go home during our college spring break to meet his first niece. she was 3 years old when i moved to kansas city, and is now 6. not only does she have a cool middle name (elizabeth – just like mine!), but she’s also a sweetheart. i can’t believe the change 3 years has brought. what a thoughtful and sweet little girl she’s growing up to be. not to mention, she can do a rockin’ cannonball. 😉

oh baby.

i will admit that i didn’t look forward to baby stage. i just wanted to skip right on through to about a year when they start becoming a little more independent. walking, talking, etc. i’ve always liked babies, don’t get me wrong. but i also liked the part about babies that you could give them back to their mommies when they had a stinky diaper, started crying, or my arm got tired. it’s different when it’s your own. cliche, right? but there is truth to it. because i have fallen head over heals in love with a baby. my baby. my baby owen that i want to stay little and cuddly and helpless forever.

life is funny that way, you know?

father’s day.

we spent a portion of our afternoon on father’s day in our backyard lounging in the shade on this super fun outdoor blanket. so peaceful, so perfect.

it was the first father’s day being celebrated in our household. (although, macy & kirkwood have been known to sign a father’s day card with a muddy paw print in the past…) we kept it pretty low key, as anything more than low key with a 3-week-old in tow becomes a bit challenging. but we did manage to make it to the dog park and out for ice cream. happy 1st father’s day to my sweet husband, and also to my own daddy. 🙂

meet owen.

just for the sake of updating, let me introduce you to the newest arrival to our family: owen william, born may 28 at 8:32 p.m. life has been pretty busy since his arrival! i love this picture for many reasons, but especially because it showcases his sweet little fuzzy shoulders. 🙂

i’m sure my blog will be dominated by this little boy as time progresses. you’ve been warned. 🙂

happy mama’s day.

my husband stepped up to the plate this year since i’m 3 weeks away from being a mommy myself. as it turns out, i could get use to being celebrated on this day.

to all you beautiful mama’s out there, and especially to mine: happy mother’s day. may you feel celebrated today. love you!
